Goedhuis, December 2020
Poised and restrained, this wine showcases the best of this 40 hectare Grand Cru in Flagey Echezeaux. Sweet alpine fruits, the tannins have a fine sandy quality. It flows through the palate and reveals impressive length. A true Grand Cru with huge pedigree.

Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 91-93
The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru is almost completely destemmed and raised in 20% new oak. It has a lovely, lilting bouquet of high-toned blueberry and incense aromas that are nicely focused and not excessive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and very pure and silky in texture. A subtle peppery note emerges toward the finish. Good matière here; this is an Echézeaux that should mature with grace. Drink 2024 - 2042

Burghound, April 2021, Score: 90-93
Here the expressive and moderately fresh nose is very ripe with its jammy mocha-infused nose of plum, violet and plenty of spice elements. The rich and expansive medium-bodied flavors coat the palate with extract yet there is evident power and structure that arrives in a rush on the slightly austere and ever-so-mildly warm finale. Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less
Region
Echézeaux
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
