    This fine vineyard lying alongside Bonnes Mares Grand Cru takes its name from the small huts (bodes) that once existed in remote spots in the vineyards. Always a bolder style of Chambolle, erring more towards Morey or Gevrey. A lovely energetic style, the sweet dark fruits support the line of minerality that provide a brightness and an almost saline character on the finish. This balances Chambolle purity with Gevrey boldness and intensity. Quite excellent.

    A pretty nose of plum, violet, spiced tea and a whiff of earth does flirt with volatile acidity though it's so subtle that, provided it does not become worse, it shouldn't present a significant problem. There is both good volume and muscle to the solidly concentrated and muscular flavors that conclude in a very firm, youthfully austere and better-balanced finale. Drink: 2031+

    Grippy and rather tense, this is a decent wine and one which brings Sérafin’s style, overlays it on a rather delicate Chambolle body and it actually works. Dry and firm, and in need of time, this is a classy number and one which will open slowly but surely.

    Deep purple, this is cooler and fresher than Les Millandes with dark raspberry plus some blacker fruit, good acidity, slightly firm tannins, but there always are with this wine chez Sérafin. Tightly knit, but not lacking in fruit. 3 star

The Sérafin family are part of the establishment in Gevrey Chambertin. From when he took over from his father in the 1960 until his recent retirement, if you ever want to get in touch with Christian, you either had to call him as the rooster crowed in the morning or long after the sun had set. The rest of the time, he was working out in the vines or deep in his cellars. The domaine is now run by cousins Frédérique and Karine who are continuing the family tradition of making bold and structured wines. Their Pinots benefit from a period of bottle age and typically express fine tertiary characteristics. They do not fine or filter their wines, and only rack when necessary. Not shy of new oak, they use up to 50% on their straight Bourgogne and often 100% on the rest of their cuvées depending on the concentration. The wines tend to be ample and fleshy, and the richest ones need some cellaring in order to better integrate the spicy, cedarwood flavours.Read less

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
