En Primeur | Pommard

A long popular appellation, Pommard is yet another exclusive red wine area which produces by far the most structured reds of the Côte de Beaune. It extracts rich body and long ageing potential from the limestone/iron-rich clay soil. Some examples can be markedly rustic, yet as time has passed and winemaking know-how has improved, its wines are becoming softer and more approachable when young. Its vines cover 317 hectares of which over a third are premier cru vineyards.

"Pommard has been searching for its own stars for many years, names to put in on the map and at the forefront of people’s minds. They survived the dreadful run of frosted vintages. The opulence of recent warm summers is offset by Pommard’s intrinsic structure and austerity, thereby creating some really wonderful reds in 2019. Pommard is the appellation to watch.” Neal Martin

    Goedhuis, December 2020

This is an enclosed monopole in the northern end of Pommard heading towards the town of Beaune. A striking array of flavours, from damson and cranberry to sloe. With great vibrancy and purity, this is a step up in elegance and approachability. It has a harmonious volume and fine ripe tannins. An immensely successful cuvée in 2019.

    Goedhuis, December 2020

Les Chanlins sits right on the border of Volnay and has a reputation for crafting a highly elegant Pommard. Only one barrel of this wine was made in 2019, so it is only available in magnum. Characterful hedgerow fruits, this has excellent intensity and an appealing granular tannic core. Very composed and long on the finish.
