Goedhuis, November 2018
Always a star attraction in this cellar, this is a brilliant example of why the Cistercian monks of old so revered the Clos de Bèze vineyard. Scented and pure tayberry and mulberry fruit aromas. This is a brooding and powerful wine with a huge volume of fruit, but one that is also superbly layered. Dark, dense, concentrated and very long indeed.

Neal Martin, January 2019,
Score: 91-93The 2017 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru matures in 25% whole bunches and matured in 80% new oak. It has a very intense bouquet with blackberry, briary and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a little oak to be subsumed on the entry (normal for this Grand Cru) with a broody and dense, quite muscular finish that will require several years to soften. Maybe the Clos de Vougeot and Bonnes-Mares demonstrate more personality at the moment? One for the long-haul. 2024 - 2042

Burghound, January 2018,
Score: 91-94A brooding and inexpressive nose reluctantly offers up attractively spiced aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and plenty of floral wisps. There is even better volume and mid-palate density to the solidly powerful and mineral-inflected medium weight plus flavors that possess much better balance and proportion, particularly on the focused and lingering finish. This is perhaps not quite as refined as it usually is but the intrinsic class of a fine Bèze is still present. Drink 2035+

Domaine Drouhin Laroze

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
