Burgundy En Primeur 2021 | Goedhuis' New Domaines

As the 2021 Burgundy En Primeur campaign hits its peak, we wanted to draw attention to a selection of wines from some of our newest domaines. The combination of rising prices and climate change means formerly overlooked villages are becoming prime sources for high-quality wine at attractive prices, with many similarly overlooked domaines investing in and developing ever impressive quality. Despite the size of the 2021 crop, opportunities still exist, and we have used this vintage to develop our already extensive range further. Check out the range below to discover some of our top new picks.

  • Goedhuis, December 2022

From 0.5 hectares in the northern sector of the appellation with a strong clay and chalk composition. Sylvain was so confident in the quality of the fruit that he used 50% whole bunches during the vinification, which contributes to the very delicate acidity in this 2021. Cherry fruits and soft tannins in an easy, accessible style.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 87-89

70% whole bunch vinification. Nonetheless, a full purple colour, with a slight carbonic feel but not peppery on the nose, though that character appears at the back of the palate. Still quite backward and will doubtless knit together more later. Drink from 2024-2027.

2021 Morey St Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbé François Legros

Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £280.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £352.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

The name is said to derive from the Sorb apple which may have been planted here many centuries ago. There is a high proportion of chalk in the soil which François credits to giving the wines from this vineyard their vitality and energy. This was a star performer tasting from cask, combining wild fruits of the forest with some spice of oak. Delicious volume, almost glycerol-like, and a full feeling of broad texture, with some drier tannic sensations. Great length and huge potential.

  • Neal Martin, January 2023, Score: 91-93

Due to be bottled in January, the 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Sorbé 1er Cru is more backward than the Millandes at the moment, tightly-coiled red berry fruit, orange rind and a light steely note. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannins, quintessential Morey-Saint-Denis with conspicuous backbone, judiciously spiced towards the finish. Bold but not overpowering, this is a nicely crafted Clos Sorbé. Drink 2025-2040.

2021 Pernand Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Les Fichots Rollin Père Fils

£180.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £180.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £232.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

This, the oldest section of vines within the Rollin estate, was planted by Raymond back in 1945. The soil is an excellent representation of the appellation, combining clay and red iron with a firm bedrock of limestone. Bright purple colour, this has a fine clarity of red fruits, raspberry and loganberry. A soft acidity, with a pleasant line of tannic tension. Direct and pure.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 87-89

Solid and surprisingly dense purple. The bouquet is more rustic than the Savigny, a question of the vineyard, which has a good proportion of old and very old vines. A full mouthful with a more sombre style of fruit, this is really Aloxe style terroir. Drink from 2025-2028.

2021 Volnay Origines Nicolas Rossignol

£275.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 4 £275.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £346.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

This blend of four different plots - Les Buttes, Les Grand Champs, Les Famines and Les Lurets - from vineyards aged between 10-60 years old, produces a very complete example of the appellation. Brilliant purple colour, very expressive with blueberry and huckleberry flavours. A sweet purity of fruit, with fine powder-like tannins and a stylish finish.

2021 Volnay 1er Cru Ronceret Nicolas Rossignol

£480.00 In Bond

Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 2 £480.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £592.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, January 2023

Very deep dark currant aromatics, with a touch of cranberry. Very clear and precise, with a striking crunchy fruit character and rewarding freshness. Pinot Noir purity at its best.

2021 Pommard 1er Cru Les Épenots Nicolas Rossignol

£780.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 9 £780.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £952.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

From the lower slopes of Pommard, heading towards Beaune, this is an iron rich soil and these 40-year-old vines create an extremely intense and concentrated wine. Very direct with its dark fruit flavours, sweet cassis and olallieberry. The tannins are tensile and firm, this will require bottle ageing, but the potential is huge. Excellent quality.

2021 Savigny Lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Peuillets Ch de Meursault

£230.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £230.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £292.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

Les Peuillets consists of very sandy soil, which, in a wetter year such as 2021, freely drains and keeps its warmth throughout the summer. Fresh cherry and strawberry fruits, this is a very pleasing and fleshy style, generous and sweet, with a layer of mocha and cocoa on the finish.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 89-92

A pretty crimson purple. The bouquet shows more volume than the village Savigny, with a slightly more generous fruit. The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune Peuillets fills the mouth, well balanced, energy behind, a lifted finish with some length. Drink from 2025-2029.

2021 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes Ch de Meursault

£340.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £340.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £424.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

Situated on the cooler, higher slopes of this highly respected vineyard at 270 metres up above sea level. Brilliant purple colour this has both muscle and tension. Savoury dark berry fruits, a deep volume and breadth, with powerful richness. The tannins are present but kept in check by the weight of fruit. This has fine ageing potential.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 91-93

Glowing mid purple with quite a striking elegance. A bouncy vibrant fruit then a slightly drier patch behind, but I think this is temporary as there is easily enough fruit on the palate. Shows the lifted harmonious pinot of this excellent vineyard. Drink from 2026-2032.

2021 Maranges La Rue des Pierres Elodie Roy

£120.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £120.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £160.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

This is village cuvée comes from lower-lying vineyards bordering the commune of Santenay. The fruit is 100% destalked, allowing its true Pinot characteristics to shine. A mix of cherry and bilberry. A strikingly pleasing style, delicate sweetness of fruit, the tannins are gentle and a gratifyingly spicy finish. Lovely.

  • Neal Martin, January 2023, Score: 90

The 2021 Maranges La Rue de Pierres, which is de-stemmed with 40% new oak, has an open bouquet with Morello cherries, orange rind and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine depth, taut and fresh with a sapid finish. Not long term, but lively and spicy.

2021 Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravieres Elodie Roy

Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £160.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £208.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, January 2023

This vineyard’s close proximity to the stony, clay soils of Chassagne Montrachet has built it a reputation for producing white wine. Elodie’s 2021 shows why it now has a growing reputation as a source of fine Pinot Noir. Gentle red cherry aromas, with nutmeg and fresh strawberry. Lovely sweetness of flavours with soft flowing tannins. Tremendous charm, with depth and length.

  • Neal Martin, January 2023, Score: 91

The 2021 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru comes from vines planted in 1952/1953 that tends to have millerandé berries, and was completely de-stemmed. This has a beguiling bouquet with pure red fruit that seems to blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very harmonious with a sensual finish. Recommended. Drink 2023-2032.

Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £180.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £232.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

Situated within the commune of Meursault, but just outside the appellational limits, this is a striking cuvée. Lemon yellow colour, quince and kumquat characters, with a touch of tropical fruit. Beautiful volume and very giving for youthful pleasure.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 87-88

On its finings to bottle at the end of the year. Mid yellow, a certain volume of fruit on the nose, with a light banana touch. There is a considerable density here with a good clean finish. Always a good cuvée, and this year is no exception. Drink from 2024-2027.

2021 Marsannay Blanc Ch de Marsannay

Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £165.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £214.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

2.5 hectares of superbly positioned Chardonnay in the very middle of the slopes. Fresh pear and quince bouquet. Succulent and rich, with flavours of kumquat and marzipan and an attractive soft, silky finish.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 87-90

Mid yellow with still a greenish tint. The nose is fuller rather than finer, but there is a crisper return on the palate and a more definite character. Finishes very well with good tension. Drink from 2024-2026.

2021 Pernand Vergelesses Blanc Les Cloux Rollin Père Fils

Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £168.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £217.67 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

Sitting behind the hill of Corton, these vines are positioned within a sheltered combe which offers both protection and warmth. A lively brightness of bitter orange and lemon peel. A dynamic energetic palate, with a touch of toast and nutty oak sensations. Good length with a lasting feeling of breadth and careful concentration.

  • Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 89

A pale lemon colour, with a noticeably more reticent nose. More in white fruit with less of the baked apples, though Simon finds it more exotic. Good acidity to finish and a few appley notes return at the back. More volume in the mouth here. Drink from 2024-2027.

2021 Nuits St Georges François Legros

£195.00 In Bond
Availability: En Primeur
Availability: En Primeur Status: Released Size: 6x75cl Qty: 10+ £195.00 In Bond Status: Released Qty: - £250.07 Inc VAT
  • Goedhuis, December 2022

Coming from three different plots, this is a brilliant example of old vine quality (60 years) and the characteristics of Nuits St Georges from the Vosne Romanée side of the town. Shining ruby colour, a mix of savoury and autumnal fruits. This has a lovely clarity of Pinot fruit sensations, with gentle silky tannins. Rewarding and easy.

  • Neal Martin, January 2023, Score: 87

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Village comes from three parcels in the northern part of the appellation. Dark berry fruit intermixes with bay leaf and touches of Earl Grey. The palate is medium-bodied with tangerine and marmalade infused red fruit, quite structured though it just lacks a bit of finesse on the finish. Drink 2024-2034.
