  • Goedhuis, December 2016

With 20% whole bunch fermented fruit, this is a stunningly multifaceted wine, with so many aromas of dark forest fruits, loganberries and blueberries. In the palate the full richness of flavours is balanced by the sweet rounded tannins. A wine of real intensity and concentration. A high class grand cru in every way.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 93-95

The 2015 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is raised in 80% new oak with 20% whole bunch. It has a very detailed and focused bouquet with precise blackberry, raspberry and morello cherry aromas neatly infused with mineral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, powerful without losing control and building towards a very structured, spicy finish. Whilst I would still dial down the oak to 50-60%, nevertheless it remains a very well-crafted Chambertin with plenty of substance and ambition, and that ain't a bad thing when you are a Clos-de-Bèze. • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 93-95

Here too the nose is quite ripe yet remains fresh and inviting with its more elegant combination of spice and floral elements adding breadth to the red currant, plum, violet and underbrush scents where there is just enough wood to remark upon. The more refined and highly energetic medium weight plus flavors also display more evident minerality on the sleek, focused and explosively long finale. I very much like the interplay of dry extract, tannin and supporting acidity as the sense of harmony and vibrancy is lovely. Don't miss! (93-95)/2032+

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Chambertin Clos de Bèze

Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
