Domaines Ott are the undisputed emperors of Provençal rosé.
They have put the pale, delicate, mineral style of dry, thirst-quenching rosé now synonymous with long summer afternoons by the turquoise waters of the Med on the map, and continue to reign as the finest producers of this style.
The majority share of the Ott business was bought by Roederer in 2004, since when they have made major investments in the cellars and vineyards. The Ott family remain intimately involved in the vinification of the wines, and the true identity of the family and pioneer Marcel Ott’s ethos remains unchanged: to make the best wines in Provence. The patented bottle shape, which echoes the curves of ancient amphora, is a mainstay on the white table cloths of the Côte d’Azur.

A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rolle (aka Vermentino). Extremely gentle direct pressing ensures the ulta-pale Provencal pink. The words ‘Coeur de Grain’ are printed on the label – only the heart of the berry is used; i.e. only the purest and palest juice that yields under gentle pressing, with the remainder going into their second label ‘By Ott’. The 2016 is perfumed with the wild garrigue herbs of the Provence scrublands, and the salty scent of the sea. The palate has a superb balance of creamy texture and silky freshness. With no malolactic fermentation and vinification in concrete and stainless steel, the wine is as bright and thirst-quenching as its appearance suggests. Both the prettiest and most complex rosé from Provence. Drink 2017-2019
