  • Goedhuis, November 2018

Les Boudots is the most northerly premier cru of Nuits St Georges, neighbouring Vosne Romanée’s Aux Malconsorts. It has the characteristic power of the vineyard, the muscle of Nuits, and the sophisticated fragrance of some whole bunch fruit (60%). Its structure sets it up well for a long life, and the 25% new oak supports the voluminous dark fruit depth of the wine.

  • Neal Martin, September 2021

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru has quite a modern, minty bouquet, higher-toned than its peers, displaying touches of blood orange and marmalade. It becomes a little oxidized with aeration. The medium-bodied, fleshy palate delivers sappy red berry fruit and fine acidity, yet this does oxidize with aeration. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 90-92

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru, which contains 50% whole bunches, has a vibrant bouquet of red fruit infused with hints of quince and orange blossom; veins of blue fruit emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, almost pastille-like in terms of purity, and the finish is sensual and quite approachable. This will drink young but has the substance to give 15+ years of pleasure. 2020 - 2032

  • Burghound, April 2019, Score: 90-93

This is ripe, cool and restrained with its airy array of red currant, plum and soft floral nuances that are trimmed in a touch of wood. There is a beguiling sense of tension to the lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that really build in intensity to the powerful and impressively persistent and naturally sweet finish where a hint of warmth surfaces. Fine quality here. Drink 2029+

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
