Goedhuis, December 2023
In Claude’s words, this is a “super village”, as it is a blend of part village Fournaux and part Premier Cru of the same name. Radiant scarlet colour, an array of bramble fruits, damson and sloe. A layered texture from the 100% whole bunch fruit, giving a fine tannic undertone, soft but lively on the finish.

Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 90-92
The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Fournaux is a blend of Village and Premier Cru parcels with the oldest vines planted in 1956 from a selection massale from Tollot-Beaut. It has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with plenty of fruit: blueberry and wild strawberry, a touch of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly-spiced entry, white pepper and clove infusing the dark berry fruit with a sweet, slightly candied finish. Delicious. Drinking Window: 2025-2035.

Jasper Morris MW, November 2023, Score: 87-89
Two thirds of the holding is 1er cru, vinified separately from the village part but then assembled when barrelled down. All has been vinified as whole bunches except a plot of young vines. Racked once after malolactic, not since. Rich purple colour, very exuberant but rather a raspberry and strawberry jam in style. I picked out a little warmth at the finish though with good acidity. 13.4% Drink from 2026-2031.

WK, January 2024, Score: 90-92
Deriving from a single 2.10-hectare parcel, some two thirds of which are classified as premier cru and which were formerly vinified and sold separately, the 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Fourneaux offers up aromas of cherries, sweet raspberries and plums, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate that's rich and seamless, with a broad, licorice-inflected finish.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles
The sibling team at this stunning domaine (Francois and Claude de Nicolay) is most definitely a winning one. Their biggest influence has been to convert the estate firstly to organic and now to biodynamic methods of viticulture and vinification. The wines focus on sensual flavours and refinement, these are not powerful, but the aged vines allow for wines of extraordinary texture and complexity.Region
Savigny-lès-Beaune
The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
