Goedhuis, December 2020
One of Vosne Romanée’s most iconic Grands Crus. The Méo parcel is in the lieu dit of Veroilles which receives the evening sun ensuring optimum ripeness. This wine starts gracefully, then penetrating dark fruit flavours slowly build on the palate into layers of richness and a feeling of power. Full of self-confidence. Mouth-watering with a great line of freshness. Fabulous.

The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet that expands with aeration (in this case, while I talked with Jean-Nicolas Méo about jogging). Presenting a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed stone and hints of violet and iris, this is a multifaceted bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied and very different: much more structured, closed and dense. Méo mentioned how mercurial this Richebourg has been in recent days, and I reckon I caught it on a broody day. But there is firm grip and great length. A Richebourg that is beseeching people like me to leave it alone. Drink 2025 - 2050

Burghound, January 2021, Score: 94-97
A cool, airy and highly restrained nose features superbly complex notes of essence of red and dark currant, cherry, plum, lavender, rose petal and a wonderful array of spice wisps. There is equally superb depth to the dense, muscular and imposingly broad-shouldered flavors that possess a very classy texture before terminating an overtly mineral-driven, well-balanced, moderately austere and stunningly long finish. This is, in a word, marvelous. Dont miss! Drink 2039+

Decanter, October 2020, Score: 99
Méo owns two parcels of Richebourg that border Cros Parantoux, mostly in Les Véroilles. The wine produced in 2019 was spectacular – among the highlights of the vintage. There is no lack of sweet red fruit, but it is very complex, with rich, earthy notes, a savoury, gamey side and a strong mineral underpinning. This is among the most transparent reflections of the terroir of Richebourg. On the palate there is a beautiful tension between fresh acidity, firm tannins and a deeply satisfying concentration of extract. Drink 2029-2049. Charles Curtis MW.

Jasper Morris MW, November 2020, Score: 96-98
No more than medium deep purple. Ripe and plump, with a lush character that nevertheless does not go too far. Indeed, the fruit just builds and builds on the palate. The floral side of raspberry. Very sumptuous and absolutely complete. The fruit covers the acidity and indeed any tannins, but one can sense that the requisite structure is there. 4 Star.

When Jean-Nicolas Méo arrived in 1989 he had very big shoes to fill. Henri Jayer, arguably Burgundy’s preeminent vigneron, had managed the domaine for the previous four decades under a share-cropping agreement with the Méo family. Since then Jean-Nicolas has more than met the challenge. Following meticulous viticultural and winemaking practices he creates wonderful wines with fine levels of concentration, and today, almost three decades since his ascension, it ranks in the upper echelons of the Burgundy firmament. The majority of wines are red, ranging from Bougogne Rouge up to their ultra-famous Cros Parantoux and outstanding Richebourg. But Jean-Nicolas also makes a miniscule production of white wine. He began planting the Chardonnay for his Clos St. Philibert on steep slopes overlooking Nuit St. Georges over 25 years ago from carefully selected Chardonnay clones. Domaine Méo-Camuzet has expanded its line of 'vins de négoce' in recent years. These wines are bottled under the 'Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs' label.Read less
