Goedhuis, November 2020
Named after the walnut trees that flourished on this site in the past, Gruenchers lies just below the Barthod-Boillot house. A full, succulent and juicy wine, with a mass of dark blackberry fruits. This has a true Chambolle softness and charm to it. Very supple with a delicious balance.

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 1er Cru has a backward, tertiary nose of tobacco and light morel aromas, but they take some coaxing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and good density and focus, yet I feel it is missing the complexity and nuance of the Sentiers of Beaux-Bruns, for example. Hopefully it will offer more once in bottle. Drink 2023 - 2035

Burghound, January 2021, Score: 91-94
Once again there is a perfumed quality to the elegant and very pretty aromas of Maraschino cherry, raspberry, blue pinot fruit and violet. The caressing but punchy middle weight plus flavors that possess both fine size and weight as well as very good delineation on the stony, complex and impressively persistent finish that is shaped by fine-grained tannins while flashing focused power. This is excellent and worth your interest. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink 2031+

Wine Advocate, Score: (92-94)
Offering up notions of raspberry coulis, dried flowers, peony and wintergreen, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Gruenchers is medium to full-bodied, layered and mineral, framed by chalky tannins that will become more supple with additional élevage. A little reserved on this encounter, I look forward to revisiting it from bottle. William Kelley

I am guilty of rather passing over Les Greunchers each year as I find it the least easy in the portfolio to understand. Awkward, interrupted and esoteric, I am sure that this will appeal to Greuncher nerds, but I will go for the more obviously accessible (and grand) wines with pleasure.

Medium purple. Lovely pure Chambolle nose, not the most perfumed nor the most concentrated but very stylish. Plenty of violets in the mouth, good acidity, nuanced and persistent. 2.5 barrels made. 3 Star

Exquisitely pure, ethereal, and terroir-driven, Ghislaine’s wines also have wonderful mineral raciness. The domaine was originally created by Marcel Noëllat, Ghislaine’s maternal grandfather. After attending viticultural college in Beaune in the 1980s, she began assisting her father, Gaston Barthod, at the family domaine. Her straightforward, no-nonsense approach helped introduce a sorting table, extended lees contact, a gentle cold soak before fermentation, and domaine bottling. All this enabled greater control over the quality of fruit, texture of tannins, and purity of flavours. The results have been year upon year of magical masterpieces from Chambolle Musigny. Along with her partner Louis Boillot, today she is joined in the vineyard and cellar by their son, Clément.Read less
Region
Chambolle Musigny
The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
