  • Goedhuis, November 2018

Here the fruit and oak show supreme balance and integration. This is a sculpted, well-honed example of this exceptionally fine premier cru from the commune’s northern border with Vosne Romanée as it runs into 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts. The wine’s power is married with some ethereal top notes of fragrant aromatics. Peer explains how they added back 15% stems during the fermentation to achieve this distinctive style. It is both sinewy and subtle; a beauty.

  • Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 90-92

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru contains around 10% stems that are added into the vat (rather than the whole bunches entering the vessel). The attractive, well-defined bouquet features vibrant black cherries, blueberry and crushed stone aromas, all precise and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple entry and plenty of red fruit laced with brown spices. Quite elegant and charming, just needing a little more grip to come through on the finish but otherwise very fine. 2021 - 2036

  • Burghound, January 2019, Score: 90-93

An overtly floral and spice-infused nose reflects notes of various dark berries and earth. Once again there is a highly attractive texture to the medium-bodied flavors that don't yet possess the same complexity though there is even better persistence to the somewhat more structured finale. My sense is that this will add more depth with age and will eventually surpass the Murgers. Drink 2029+

When Jean-Nicolas Méo arrived in 1989 he had very big shoes to fill. Henri Jayer, arguably Burgundy’s preeminent vigneron, had managed the domaine for the previous four decades under a share-cropping agreement with the Méo family. Since then Jean-Nicolas has more than met the challenge. Following meticulous viticultural and winemaking practices he creates wonderful wines with fine levels of concentration, and today, almost three decades since his ascension, it ranks in the upper echelons of the Burgundy firmament. The majority of wines are red, ranging from Bougogne Rouge up to their ultra-famous Cros Parantoux and outstanding Richebourg. But Jean-Nicolas also makes a miniscule production of white wine. He began planting the Chardonnay for his Clos St. Philibert on steep slopes overlooking Nuit St. Georges over 25 years ago from carefully selected Chardonnay clones. Domaine Méo-Camuzet has expanded its line of 'vins de négoce' in recent years. These wines are bottled under the 'Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs' label.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
