Goedhuis, November 2018
This vineyard is tucked in the very farthest northwest part of the village and enjoys the cooling influence of its 350m elevation in warm summers. This has superb brightness. The fruit feels mature, and with such pretty juiciness. Extended ageing on fine lees has added some creaminess. The tannins are finely built, and the overall impression is one of great balance. It finishes long and refreshingly saline.

Neal Martin, January 2019, Score: 90-92
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru has quite a compact bouquet, with clay-like scents permeating the black fruit. It feels a little broody. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, pure and well balanced. A tang of spice develops toward the grippy finish. This will need three or four years to open once in bottle, but there is good potential here. 2022 - 2035

Burghound, January 2019, Score: 89-92
A fresh if quite restrained, even timid nose grudgingly reflects notes of plum, dark currant, forest floor and a touch of earth. There is once again excellent vibrancy and intensity to the super-sleek and refreshing middle weight flavors that are finer if a bit less concentrated, all wrapped in an attractively complex, persistent and mildly austere finale. This too offers excellent quality for its level.

Decanter, December 2018, Score: 93
A village vineyard it may be, but Les Evocelles often outperforms its classification. This comes from four plots 'like a staircase' that make up a total of 0.5ha. It's very much a higher altitude Brochon style, with crunchy, juicy, red berry flavours, refined 20% new oak and a hint of good reduction. Drinking Window 2022 - 2027

Louis is the seventh generation of vignerons in Burgundy from a family who is mostly known for their Côte de Beaune wines such as Pommard and Volnay however, several Côte de Nuits appellations including Gevrey Chambertin were added to the repertoire in 1978. Many of these are parcels of extremely old vines, and the wines have a natural concentration and silky persistence. Today Louis vinifies and ages his wines in Chambolle Musigny in the same cellar as his other half, Ghislaine Barthod. In fact, it has been said that his influences have helped create the celestial beauties that have risen from her vineyards. Both are ably assisted by their son, Clément. He has been instrumental in Louis Boillot’s recent purchase of vineyards in Beaujolais, Moulin à Vent, where these skilled Burgundians bring their expertise to the Gamay grape.Read less
Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
