  • Goedhuis, December 2016

Dark black cherry colour, this has the sweet spiced perfume of wild strawberries so typical of whole bunch fermentation. In the palate it balances voluptuous richness with concentration and bold weight. Intense, full and very long.

  • Neal Martin, November 2021, Score: 93

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, 100% whole bunches, is a wine that I found difficult to assess after bottling. With two or three more years in bottle, the aromatics have certainly blossomed with wild strawberry, pressed rose petal and allspice, gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite harmonious with moderate depth. There is impressive weight towards the spicy finish, with just a splash of balsamic lending some edginess. This is showing very well but it will continue to improve in bottle. Tasted at the Domaine de L’Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London.

  • Neal Martin, December 2016, Score: 94-96

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is 100% whole bunch this year, the first time that this has been done and it was raised in two-thirds new oak. Frankly, I was concerned that might be too much, but on the contrary it is actually quite difficult to discern and it allows the mineralité to really shine through, tempering the usual opulence of this vineyard and offering something very focused and energetic. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tension and poise, well-judged acidity, razor-sharp precision with a very long, saline aftertaste. This is one of the best Les Suchots that I have encountered in the 2015 vintage, though it deserves several years in bottle. Drink Date 2021 - 2045

  • Burghound, January 2017, Score: 91-93

A completely different aromatic profile offers up a wide variety of spice and floral elements, in particular rose petal and violet, that add a touch of elegance to the cassis and dark cherry-scented nose. There is a rich, suave and velvety texture to the palate coating medium weight flavors that deliver excellent length on the firm but not really austere finish that suggests 10 to 12 years should see this at its best. Outstanding. (91-93)/2025+

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)Read less

Region

Vosne Romanée

The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
