Neal Martin, December 2014, Score: 91-93
The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru les Goulots has great transparency on the nose: real delineation here, almost aloof, but intriguing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is a more masculine premier cru: structured and linear, but there is fine weight and intensity on the finish with a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent. Drink: 2017 - 2030

Burghound, January 2015, Score: 91-93
This is markedly floral with a cool and reserved nose that grudgingly displays wet stone and sauvage hints on the wonderfully fresh mélange of red berry fruit scents. The equally cool and restrained middle weight flavors possess excellent delineation on the stony and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that deliver fine length on the balanced finale. This beautiful effort is textbook Goulots. Drink 2021+

Sarah Marsh, November 2014, Score: 18
This is pure and upright and has tension. Neatly defined edges. Dark red fruit with hint of red peppercorn. the tannic structure has a twang and energy. Just the rich side of ripe giving it plenty of energy and snap. Score 18

He had learned from the best, most notably the late Henri Jayer of Vosne Romanée and Domaine Drouhin in the Willamette Valley in Oregon with whom he did his formative training. He is a keen participant in the growing trend towards minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. The domaine has a remarkable array of very old vines, many having been planted between the wars. The Fourrier wines are pure and balanced.Read less

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
