Rioja Dinner – Tuesday 11th November 2008

Archive

We are not best known as purveyors of Spanish wine and, apart from a few select areas, Spain has not been renowned for producing particularly fine wine. However the days of over-oaked dried out wine are long gone and Rioja, the jewel in Spain’s vinous crown, is producing some seriously interesting wine.

We have recently started working with Bodegas Muga, one of the most respected producers in the area. The estate was established in 1932 by Isaac Muga and is still run by his family with great skill and attention to detail. We have also discovered a wonderful early drinking everyday Rioja from Bodegas Altun.

We are delighted to be holding a dinner for 40 people to showcase the wines that we are now selling from Rioja. The dinner is in the private room at Meza (100 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1F 0TN) with a Spanish menu selected to complement the wines. Drinks from 7.00 pm, dinner at 7.45 pm. The wines will be presented by Jose Velo-Rego who has been working with Muga since 1982.

Before dinner we will be drinking Rioja Blanco Bodegas Muga 2006 and Rioja Crianza Bodegas Altún 2005.

With dinner we will be tasting the following eight wines, with some spectacular old vintages straight from Muga’s cellars.

Rioja Bodegas Muga 2001
