Operation SMILE auction in Hong Kong…

Is there no end to his talents? Goedhuis & Co Managing Director and our man in Hong Kong took on the new role of auctioneer on Friday night. Butler and Dalmeny needn’t be too concerned as it’s his first and last outing but it was a huge success.

Our Managing Director Tom Stopford Sackville was called upon on Friday night to be the live auctioneer at the Operation Smile Charity Event in Hong Kong. It was his first (and he claims last) attempt at live auctioneering and in front of 500 rowdy party goers at that.

He managed to raise HK$ 885,000.00 for the charity that focuses on raising money for children born with cleft palates in remote parts of China.

Among the lots auctioned were a signed Rolling Stones guitar plus holidays in Mustique, Phuket and the Corbieres. Not a single wine lot!

He was later called on stage by the famous Burlesque performer, Lady Meow Meow. Yes, that’s him under her left leg. Humphrey Butler having seen the picture of the auctioneer and Lady Meow Meow is insisting on her appearance at the 10th Wine Dinner on 2nd March 2010.
