Last but not least The Graves

Archive

Final day was all about Graves, a wonderful tasting at Haut Brion, which was my favourite First Growth, and then to UGC Graves tasting where there were a good deal of whites on show as well as the reds – Domaine de Chevalier white and red both very good, Haut Bailly on fine form, Carbonnieux blanc slipped down pretty easily too.

Our final lunch was magnificent at the Source de Caudalie, which is next to Ch Smith Haut Lafite. It has a great brasserie, delicious foie gras dish, and some fine rouget washed down by a bottle of Alter Ego de Palmer 2001 which was lovely, a cleansing ale before boarding and a snooze on the flight back.

An interesting and intense 4 days, lets see what the Bordelais decide to do with prices, but there are certainly some very good wines for early to medium term drinking and if prices permit then there will be wines to recommend, albeit severely selected.
