Bordeaux Trip – Day 3, Pessac Léognan

Archive

A 30 minute drive south from the city of Bordeaux, we arrived at Domaine de Chevalier, one of Goedhuis & Co’s favourite Chateaux to visit, as the team, led by Olivier Bernard, are always extremely welcoming and generous. Olivier sadly couldn’t be with us that day but the rest of the team ensured we had a fantastic time. The wines on show included 2008 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, 2006 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge and 2013 Clos des Lunes – all delicious!

Dom-de-Chev

Finally we visited the wonderful Veronique Sanders and Yann Monties at Château Haut Bailly. Two highlights from the tasting were 2014 La Parde, the estate’s second wine – this was a real pleasure to taste: fresh, lively and leaping from the glass. The second stand out was Haut Bailly 2009, massive wine and true to the vintage, this had impressive concentration, a great wine!

Haut-Bailly

We finished with a “quick” lunch at Lunch Les Sources de Caudalie, which overlooks Château Smith Haut Lafitte. This lunch was as good as we have had all week, and very fittingly bookended the trip.
