Calling all lovers of Pinot Noir: The must have Spätburgunders from the great estate of Fürst in Franken

German Pinot Noir has been going from strength to strength. A recent landmark tasting saw Jancis Robinson comment that it ‘belongs in the company of the world’s finest’ further stating, “I was left in no doubt that Germany is now making some truly fine Pinot Noir that can be compared with some of the best middle-ranking red burgundy.”

The western villages of Franken have traditionally been among Germany’s most important Pinot Noir vineyards. It is here, from the iron-rich red sandstone of Centgrafenberg, Hundsrück and the terraced Schlossberg, that Paul and Sebastian Fürst’s great Pinot Noirs are produced.

The Fürst family has been making wine in Bürgstadt since 1638 and is widely considered one of the very top producers of Pinot Noir in Germany. The current generation, Monika and Paul Fürst built the new estate nestled in the vineyards of the Centgrafenberg in 1979. From the beginning their philosophy has been as clear cut and consistent as the one so aptly summed up by Oscar Wilde: “I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”
