Pichon Baron 1993

On Saturday night I drank a bottle of Ch Pichon Baron, 2eme Cru Pauillac 1993. If anyone has this in their cellar, you should drink it now and really enjoy it.

It is fully mature, well balanced, with concentrated, mature leathery dried fruits. Plums and figs feature in depth. The mouthfeel is velvety and the wine is still alive and kicking.

It won’t set the world alight but, in a mediocre vintage, this 2nd Growth has performed A LOT better than I would have expected it to, particulalry having just read Parkers note..

“An evolved dark garnet color is followed by vegetal, green pepper-like aromas, and some sweet, redcurranty fruit. Given the laudable consistency of Pichon-Longueville-Baron since the late eighties, the 1993 is mediocre. It is soft, vegetal, and easy to drink, but uninteresting. Anticipated maturity: now-2006.”

I think it is a delicious, if not overly complex, drink.
