Rosé Tasting – Champagne de Bruyne Rosé

Archive

De Bruyne is our new house Champagne that we began working with about 8 months ago. Because of the strong euro, we were keen to find a new house Champagne that delivered excellent quality yet at a very good price. After tasting literally dozens of bottles and visiting multiple growers, I immediately knew we found our new producer the second I tasted their wines.

Though I know that De Bruyne’s rosé is utterly delicious and is even capable of ageing, there was an element of intimidation being surrounded by notably famous Champagnes produced by Billecart Salmon and Laurent Perrier.

Half way through the tasting, one customer asked me how the De Bruyne’s stood up against the competition, and so I asked him to taste it and tell me. He was impressed to say the least. And he was not the only one. Smiling faces asking for seconds and thirds suggested that others also found it delicious. Not too shabby for at least half the price of the grander rosés.

Furthermore, its fruity yet refined core of strawberries and white peaches perfectly accompanied the fantastic array of savoury smoked trout and roasted salmon paté provided by Upton Smokery from the Cotswolds. Incredible stuff!

They kindly donated a Jeroboam, a magnum and six bottles of their white Champagne which went for £500 in the Silent Auction.
