The nose opens with orange zest, white chocolate, vanilla bean and fresh pear with gentle rye spice but on the palate a delicate fruitiness gives way to a full bodied burst of spice, rounded by notes of allspice and cinnamon. The light but surprisingly lengthy finish mingles white pepper and oak spice with hints of caramel and butterscotch.
Vermont-based WhistlePig started in 2008, led by Dave Pickerell who was one of the greatest spirit blenders and indeed the “founding father” of craft distilling in America. He has done a great deal of work with huge brands like Maker’s Mark and huge bands, such as Metallica, for their own whiskies. The prestige American whiskey market has grown massively in the last ten years and WhistlePig have taken their place alongside the top luxury Scottish and Japanese brands, winning “Best Rye Whiskey in the World” at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
