While the old vine cuvée won't be produced in 2021 (it wasn't produced in 2008, either), the 2021 Saint Joseph has lots to like. Deep ruby/purple-hued with clean, classic Northern Rhône notes of darker berries, pepper, forest floor, and some violets, it has a Burgundy-like mouthfeel and texture, with a wonderful sense of elegance. My money is on it being an outstanding Saint-Joseph that will drink well for 7-8 years or more.

Domaine André Perret
André Perret needs little introduction: he is the master of light-footed, complex Viogniers from the granite soils of Condrieu. The appellation is known for its rich, mouth-coating whites best drunk in their youth, although André’s sophisticated, expressive examples also have the potential to age well in bottle too. Region
St Joseph
St Joseph is the longest appellation in the Rhone, extending along the western banks of the Rhône river from St. Péray to Condrieu. It produces both red wine from Syrah and white wine from Marsanne and/or Roussanne which tends to be early drinking and can be traditional or modern styled depending on the producer. Created in 1956, St Joseph is a young appellation which has seen extensive expansion of its vineyard area over the last 25 years. As a result, many producers feel that there is great potential in the quality of its terroir which has yet to be discovered. Due to its lesser known status, St Joseph wines often provide excellent value for money.
