Goedhuis, December 2022
A hugely respected Premier Cru in Savigny sitting above Pernand Ile de Vergelesses. The sandy marl soils deliver a generously rich wine. Characters of sloes and damson, this is a plump and full wine. The tannins provide an earthy texture, layered and full, with attractively sweet wild bramble fruits on the finish.

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less

Region
Savigny-lès-Beaune
The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
