    A rarity for the vintage, this Premier Cru at the back of the village escaped many of the vagaries of the seasons, but more importantly, according to Caroline, thanks to the sélection massale of vines, produced an almost normal crop this year! A wonderfully characterful wine, with crunchy, crystalline fruits. Bright and racy, with a wild forest edge giving sweetness and personality at the end.

    The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune Clos des Guettes 1er Cru, slightly less touched by the frost, feels a little under-nourished compared to Gros's other cuvées - lacks a bit of flesh. The palate is medium-bodied with brittle tannins: raspberry mixed with dark cherry and a liberal sprinkling of black pepper. Modest length. This should drink well over the short-term. Drink 2024-2030.
