Goedhuis, December 2022
This is a fine vineyard, with its 60-year-old vines sitting just below Premier Cru Champeaux on the northern edge of the village. Quite a wild unruly nose of autumnal hedgerow fruits. A touch of mocha and spice. A Jekyll and Hyde of sweet and sour, its attack is all sweet dark fruits, but with a finish of lift and crunchy currant flavours. Tight and tense, with nuance and complexity.

Burghound, January 2023, Score: 86-89
Aromas of poached plum, newly turned earth and forest floor give way to suave, round and delicious flavors that possess a polished, even seductive, mouthfeel that contrasts with the slightly austere and ever-so-mildly drying finale. Here it’s not clear that the slightly dryness will necessarily fade away with time. Drink 2027+

Jasper Morris MW, December 2022, Score: 89-91
20% whole bunch vinification, 30% new wood. Volumes suffered from the hail. A fine mid purple colour. A little reduction on the nose. Now the pure red fruit starts to come out. A little more delicate than the 10 Climats, though perhaps a little more finesse instead. A good fruit-acid-tannin balance to finish. Drink from 2024-2029. Tasted: December 2022

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
