Goedhuis, December 2021
This fine vineyard was planted in 1956. A very scented wine, with a touch of Provençal lavender and violets. Tremendously graceful, it is all about poise and balance, and the taut line of tannins have a refreshing feel. Understated but quite wonderful.

The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru has a pure, perfumed bouquet with scents of raspberry and peony, the 100% whole bunch barely perceptable. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a fine bead of acidity, cohesive with fine backbone and a slightly peppery, clove-tinged finish. Wonderful. Drink 2024 - 2038

Burghound, April 2022, Score: 90-93
Cooler and more restrained aromas include those of spicy dark berries and an array of elegant floral nuances. The rich but racy medium-bodied flavors possess excellent volume as well as evident minerality on the slightly more complex and persistent finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. Outstanding. Matthew Jukes, January 2022, Score: 17
Juicy, ripe, clean and bold, this is a super wine, and it is forward, too, so it will be a real favourite for restaurants. The acidity is bright and crunchy, and the tannins are very controlled, and the result is a rather nice little wine.

The plot lies parallel to the road, benefitting from cool air coming down the valley from Bouilland, on a granular clay. Very pure purple. The whole bunch adds something vegetal which is temporary. Superb in the mouth though, it must be said, with this sublime sensuality and a lovely lingering finish.
Producer
Domaine Chandon de Briailles
The sibling team at this stunning domaine (Francois and Claude de Nicolay) is most definitely a winning one. Their biggest influence has been to convert the estate firstly to organic and now to biodynamic methods of viticulture and vinification. The wines focus on sensual flavours and refinement, these are not powerful, but the aged vines allow for wines of extraordinary texture and complexity.
Region
Savigny-lès-Beaune
The picturesque village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune, is a relatively prolific producer in Burgundian terms. Less serious than its neighbours, Pommard and Volnay, these are nonethless delicious wines - perfumed, delicate and elegant. A tiny amount of white is produced.
