Goedhuis, March 2022
Hailing from one of Sancerre’s oldest growers, Andre Dezat’s 2020 vintage is the latest in a long line of mouth-watering whites. Classic in style, the wine enjoys two months ageing on lees, adding complexity and body to the palate. While the nose is cram-full of vibrant citrus fruit and white flowers, the estate’s limestone and flinty soils are reflected in the fresh minerality on the finish. This is a first-class Sauvignon Blanc and pairs wonderfully with goat’s cheese salad or, if you’re feeling naughty, fish and chips!
The Dezat family is one of the oldest growers in Sancerre. André Dezat along with his sons and grandsons are running the domaine and they are actively involved in the promotion of Sancerre wines.
The picturesque town of Sancerre perches atop a hill on the left bank of the Loire with vineyards planted on limestone and clay hillsides. A total of 14 villages and 3 hamlets have the rights to produce Sancerre, and, due to the increasing popularity of the wine, the area under vine trebled in the last quarter of the 20th century. Often considered the classic home of Sauvignon Blanc, good Sancerre is crisp, elegant and aromatic, and among the finest and most complex Sauvignons in the world. Delicate reds and roses are also made from Pinot Noir.
