Goedhuis, December 2021
The Pruliers has replaced the 1er Cru Boudots which Nicolas purchased for many years. Just south of the town of Nuits St Georges, this is a more structured style. With notes of plums and damsons, this has a very true Pinot Noir personality. It has a tight tensile feel on the palate, with a rustic structure. A thought-provoking wine, which will age very well.

Burghound, April 2022,
Score: 90-92A much fresher nose consists of pretty purple fruit, earth and a touch of the sauvage. The rich, opulent and suave big-bodied flavors possess solid concentration and plenty of sappy dry extract that mostly, if not completely, buffers the firm tannins shaping the lingering and slightly warm finish. Patience strongly advised. Drink 2032+

Producer
Maison Roche de Bellene

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.
Region
Nuits Saint Georges
The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
