Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis
Yet another fantastic Macon-Loché from the much-loved Marcel Couturier. The 2020 is packed with lively citrus fruit flavours. Notes of white flowers, peaches and orange zest abound on the palate and there is a delicate nutty character redolent of almonds. This is a delightful all-rounder that showcases the high quality that is attainable in the best sites across the Mâconnais.
Producer
Domaine Marcel Couturier

Marcel Couturier is a new name to the Macon roster having only commenced producing his own wine for the first time in 2005. A perfectionist at heart, he realised that the potential of his own vines merited more than being sold off to the local co-operative and decided to make his own mark in the region. He produces various appellations, but it was his Macon-Loché that particularly won over our palates. It could give a wine from further north a run for its money. Low yields, exceptional vineyard management and barrel fermentation (since 2006) produce wines that are not only impressive not only in concentration but also complexity. Within a region that is dominated by mediocre co-operatives, it is this type of passion and determination that helps establish the Maconnais as a world class wine region.
Region
Mâcon Loché
Part of the Macon Villages appellation (the third and final hierarchical appellation following Macon and Macon Supérieur) which is able to add its village name to the general area appellation. Shared with Pouilly, Loché is an area of varied and complex soils which in the right hands can produce equally compelling and complex wine.
