    A notably fresher and brighter nose is comprised by the essence of black cherry, raspberry and wisps of earth and the sauvage. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the less rich but more delineated flavors that possess ample minerality moderately austere, balanced and lengthy finale. This is very classy juice that should age well. Drink: 2032+

    All destemmed. Very dense purple, with evident power to the nose, a touch of coffee in this. Rich dark fruit, on the sumptuous side, perhaps just a stage as it is being racked. Ripe cherry and raspberry fruit is masking the acidity a bit. A little disjointed today but may easily rally from here.

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask.The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.

Latricières Chambertin

Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
