Goedhuis, December 2021
A 1-hectare plot from 60-year-old vines, this is a bright and racy style, with seashore aromas of oyster shells, and lemon sherbet. The early purity unfolds as the 1er Cru depth comes into play with layers of yeast and stone fruits.
Matthew Jukes, January 2022,
With more tanginess and more amplitude, this is a far superior wine to the village effort, and there is good tension here to counter the obviously ripe fruit. Drinking now and nicely weighted, too.
Denis et Isabelle Pommier
From small acorns grow mighty oaks. Denis and Isabelle Pommier created this charming estate in 1990 after inheriting several small parcels from Denis’s grandfather. Today, through astuteness and hard work, they have expanded the domaine to 23 hectares of high-quality vineyards, all benefitting from organic practices since 2014. The Pommiers craft vibrant, aromatic wines from native yeasts in a fruit forward style with graceful volume. They always have a classic Chablis freshness, combining well with floral and ripe Chardonnay flavours. The premiers crus are part fermented in barrels of varying ages and are delicious expressions of their Kimmeridgian terroirs.
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
