  • Goedhuis, May 2021, Score: 91-92

51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot This Goedhuis favourite is a real showstopper and highlights the great success of the best Cru Bourgeois in 2020. Tasted twice already and it has been a standout wine for us in this category. Full of Victoria plum and blueberries, it has a striking volume of rich fruit. The tannins have a sophisticated ripeness, nothing too heavy, and in harmony with the fruit and its touch of freshness. The subtle compactness on the finish reflects a wine which excites in its youth, but unquestionably has the ability to age with grace.

  • Neal Martin, May 2021, Score: 89-91

The 2020 Beaumont has a well-defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and light pine cone scents plus a welcome touch of orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied and classic in style, with dry-ish tannins, but in no way austere; in fact, it displays fine depth and commendable salinity toward the finish. What they used to call "English gentleman’s claret," a.k.a. a good solid Haut-Médoc. Enjoy over 12–15 years. Drink 2026 - 2040

  • Antonio Galloni, June 2021, Score: 90-92

The 2020 Beaumont is dark, fleshy and wonderfully expressive. Charcoal, scorched earth, lavender and spice give this dark, plummy Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Superieur so much character and personality. Expressive spice and floral notes reappear on the long, beautifully articulated finish. This is a winner. Drink 2026 - 2040

  • Wine Advocate, May 2021, Score: 87-89

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Beaumont opens with expressive notions of baked red cherries, mulberries and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of dried mint, pencil shavings and charcoal. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good amount of crunchy red fruits with soft tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift. Drink 2023-2031

  • James Suckling, April 2021, Score: 92-93

A linear and polished young red with compact, silky tannins that are polished and beautiful. Lots of blackberry, blackcurrant, mushroom and spice character. Very solid wine from here.

  • Matthew Jukes, May 2021, Score: 16.5

This is a happy-go-lucky Beaumont with a fresh, red-fruited theme and a neat, savoury finish. Medium-weight and floral with rose petal notes and a red cherry core, this is a lovely little charmer and it will drink well in the mid-term.

  • Wine Cellar Insider, May 2021, Score: 88-90

Deep in color, the nose opens with smoke, spice, tobacco, herbs and dark red fruits. Round, and with much more ripeness and volume than in previous vintages, this is already a delight to taste due to all its sweet, chewy, ripe, fresh red fruits on the palate and in the finish. This is clearly a big step up here in quality and character. 88-90

Producer

Château Beaumont

Since 1986 when this property was purchased by two insurance companies, Château Beaumont has been producing some of the best value Cru Bourgeois available in Bordeaux.

Region

Haut-Médoc

The Haut-Médoc is an appellation within the Médoc that stretches along the left bank of the Gironde from Blanquefort in the south to the north of Bordeaux. The region encompasses the more famous communes of St-Estèphe, Pauillac, St-Julien and Margaux. Following the 1855 classification many of its most famous estates were classified and scored as first, second, third, fourth or fifth growths. This was based on their social and commercial positions at the time. Most of these classed growths use the village appellation name, such as Pauillac. However five of these classed growths fell outside a village appellation so take the name Haut-Médoc. Many of the vineyards which are classified as Haut-Médoc may actually also be referred to as Cru Bourgeois wines. These wines have lower permitted yields and so offer great value for money.
