Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, November 2020
A beautiful representation of the great Northern Rhône Marsanne/Roussanne blend. Pleasing aromas of white peach, apricot and honeysuckle. This is very floral and has charm, attractive volume of fruit, gentle freshness and a touch of textured grip on the finish. Long and rewarding.
Producer
Domaine André Perret

André Perret needs little introduction: he is the master of light-footed, complex Viogniers from the granite soils of Condrieu. The appellation is known for its rich, mouth-coating whites best drunk in their youth, although André’s sophisticated, expressive examples also have the potential to age well in bottle too. The 13 hectare domaine includes 5 hectares in Condrieu and 5 hectares in St Joseph, and his close-knit, peppery, herb-tinged St Joseph Rouge is excellent value and not to be missed, as is his pithy St Joseph Blanc.
Region
St Joseph
St Joseph is the longest appellation in the Rhone, extending along the western banks of the Rhône river from St. Péray to Condrieu. It produces both red wine from Syrah and white wine from Marsanne and/or Roussanne which tends to be early drinking and can be traditional or modern styled depending on the producer. Created in 1956, St Joseph is a young appellation which has seen extensive expansion of its vineyard area over the last 25 years. As a result, many producers feel that there is great potential in the quality of its terroir which has yet to be discovered. Due to its lesser known status, St Joseph wines often provide excellent value for money.
