Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, December 2020
Olivier doesn’t use any new oak in this cuvée, to allow a full expression of the natural fruit. Lime green tinge, it has a fresh brioche, yeasty aroma, and a fine seam of acidity. This is intense and tightly coiled, but will no doubt broaden in bottle.

Neal Martin, December 2020,
Score: 92-94The 2019 Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 1er Cru has a very taut, Puligny-like nose with wet limestone and flinty aromas accompanying the Granny Smith apples. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, superb salinity with a vibrant, animated finish that feels reassuringly persistent. Pure class. 2023-2040

Jasper Morris MW, December 2020,
Score: 90-93A little more colour here, pale yellow with a cool chiselled white fruit note. I like the way this fills the mouth with a fruit, which is just at optimum ripeness, which means it has developed a perfume of roses and peach blossom, but the core of the fruit remains white, with excellent texture and no excess heat. 4 stars

Producer
Domaine Hubert Lamy

The Lamy family has worked the vines in St.Aubin since 1640. Today the domaine is run by Olivier Lamy who recently took over from his father. The domaine produces around 8,500 cases of red and white wine from their 16.5 hectares; the vines are spread around the Côte de Beaune villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. Since 1997 all production has been domaine-bottled; the output is high quality - their Saint-Aubins in particular are often superior to wines from more fashionable villages.
Region
Saint-Aubin
Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
