Goedhuis, December 2020
Domaine de l’Arlot is 15 hectares in total, and of them, Clos des Forêts St Georges covers 7.2 hectares. Within the appellation the Les St Georges climats are considered as their own Grand Cru in all but name. Sweet raspberry and loganberry aromas. This is a generous and rounded wine, full, rich and ripe. The richness gives way at the end to a bit of muscle and structure. Great depth and superbly long.

Neal Martin, December 2020,
Score: 93-95The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 1er Cru comprises 30% whole bunch and 35% new oak. It has the best bouquet from the domaine this year, delivering gorgeous red fruits laced with violet that burst from the glass, quite Vosne-like in style. The palate is succulent but structured on the entry, presenting a perfect line of acidity, while beautifully integrated oak lends a seamless texture. Very persistent and satiny on the finish. An outstanding wine for the vintage. Drink 2024 - 2045

Burghound, January 2021,
Score: 91-94As is typically the case, this displays a completely different aromatic profile with its array of ripe dark berries, cassis, warm earth and a whiff of the sauvage. The dense, powerful and muscular big-bodied flavors possess excellent size, weight and punch while remaining balanced on the wonderfully persistent finish. While this can't match the Clos de l'Arlot or the Suchots for refinement, the supporting tannins are not particularly rustic; indeed it would be fair to say that this is more refined than usual. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink 2034+

Wine Advocate, January 2021,
Score: 93-95The most structured and muscular of Domaine de l'Arlot's premiers crus, the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, dark berries, raw cocoa and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a youthfully chalky finish, this is an elegantly muscular wine built to age.

Matthew Jukes, December 2020,
Score: 19+Spicy, darker-hued and more structured, too, this is a fabulous wine with serious detail and definition and it shows that the Arlot recipe works so well in the upper echelons of its portfolio. Thrillingly energetic and refreshing while, at the same time, seriously complex, this is a stunning wine.

Jasper Morris MW, October 2020,
Score: 92-9530% whole bunch vinification. Much deeper purple than the preceding wines in the tasting, and a very different style of bouquet. Solid dark fruit, maybe some blueberry, noticeably richer on the palate with greater depth of black fruit through the middle and a good acidity. Solid, weighty, impressive. And lots of detail coming up behind. 4 Star.

Domaine de l'Arlot

Domaine de l'Arlot was created in 1987 when AXA Millésimes purchased the property in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits St Georges. Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)
Region
Nuits Saint Georges
The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
