  • Goedhuis, December 2020

Les Boudots is one of the finest sites in Nuits St Georges. It mirrors many of the traits found in neighbouring Vosne Romanée Premier Cru, Aux Malconsorts, of a firm muscular structure on a deep, dark fruit backdrop. With hints of rosehip and winter berries, this is an energetic and driven style. A firm texture flows into impressive length on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 92-94

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru is gentler on the nose compared to the Pruliers, scents of wild strawberry, raspberry, crushed limestone and light ferrous aromas unfolding from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a sweet entry. This has a lot of sucrosity and energy. Powerful and vivacious toward the saline finish, which reveals touches of boysenberry and black cherries and lingers for 45 seconds. Superb. Drink 2024 - 2048

  • Burghound, January 2021, Score: 92-94

An exuberantly spicy nose is also overtly floral while displaying fresh aromas of red berries, newly turned earth and humus scents along with a mentholated top note. There is excellent intensity to the rich, full-bodied and powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess ample muscle on the robust, sappy and hugely long finish where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. Good stuff that is also clearly built to repay long-term keeping. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink 2034+

  • Matthew Jukes, December 2020, Score: 18.5+

Darker and swarthier than Pruliers, this is a fuller-framed wine and one with an exotic air, and while a little ripe, it is still a desperately curvaceous wine and it will inevitably impress all who taste it.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2020, Score: 94-97

Imperial purple veering towards the blacker side. The Nuits part of its personality is stronger than the Vosne this year, in its majesty. The Boudots stands head and shoulders above the other Nuits-St-Georges wines, perfectly balanced, huge weight up front, a little touch of balancing acidity. Robust and silky at the same time. Just the right tannins. 5 Star

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
