Neal Martin, December 2020, Score: 94-96
There are two barrels of the 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru this year, one new and the other used. It has a reserved nose at first, nicely detailed with touches of white flower infusing the green apple, nettle and oyster shell aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a touch creamy in texture with a delicate accent of spice towards the finish, flanked by hazelnut and praline notes. Complex yet backward, this is an impressive Montrachet that should give up to 30 years of drinking pleasure. Is it the best ever produced? Maybe not. 2025-2050

Jasper Morris MW, December 2020, Score: 96-99
The 2019 production consists of one normal 228l barrel and one of 285 litres neither, brand new. There are some toasty notes from the wood while the detailed elements of fruit remain covered by the intensity. This wine is sitting back on its haunches, really promising. There is a huge sweetness of fruit through the middle, a very proper toastiness, a fine acidity. This massive Montrachet still retains enough lightness on its feet despite the majesty of the vineyard. Long too. Of course! 4 stars

Their strict principles of using only natural yeast, having a slow, cool fermentation and little ‘débourbage' (draining the juice fromits sediment) contributes to their pure, fresh flavours and impeccable balance. The domaine is now run by brothers Pierre-Yves, Damien and Joseph who took over from their semi-retired father several years back. The "changing of the guard" has had little effect on the wines. The only notable difference is less stirring of the lees in order to retain the wines' mineral undertones. And as aresult, they are as delicious and sincere as ever.Read less

Region
Le Montrachet
Le Montrachet is the most famous white Burgundy Grand Cru coming from a single 8 hectare vineyard which overlaps into the communes of Puligny and Chassagne. Even as far back as the 18th century the wines of Le Montrachet had to be reserved a year in advance - a distant precursor to the en primeur system. The south east facing vineyards give the vines maximum exposure to the sun which combined with the limestone soil produces epic results.
