“Prinsiot” is the historical nickname in Piedmontese given to the Alessandria family. A beautiful introduction to this range, with grapes coming from the “Sotto Orti” and “Campasso” vineyards in Verduno. This younger brother ‘Barolo’ is made for early drinking; only 750 cases are made per year. Its typical floral scents are very elegant and refined: of dried rose, violet and cherry. This little gem is utterly delicious and highly recommended. Drink 2021-2026.
In the small medieval village of Verduno lies the historic Fratelli Alessandria cellar. The family has tended vines in the region since the beginning of the 19th century and today their 12 hectares stretch over some of the best crus in Verduno and also Monforte. This is a true family affair, Gian Battista Alessandria and his wife Flavia tend to the vines while his brother Alessandro and his son Vittore are in the winery. Together, they craft high-quality artisanal wines from the Nebbiolo grape variety but also from some Dolcetto, Barbera and the little-known Pelaverga variety. The Barolos from the village of Verduno are highly distinct and can be lighter, lacier and more elegant than those from other villages.
Piedmont is located in the north western corner of Italy. Though several grape varieties are prominent such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Moscato, it is Nebbiolo that reigns supreme. It produces wines that are not particularly deep in colour, yet they are perfumed, powerful and can age for many years. Due to the ethereal nature of the Nebbiolo grape and the numerous single vineyard wines, many compare top examples to grand cru Burgundies of the Côte de Nuits.Mountainous, its vineyards are cut into the hillsides forming terraces reminiscent of the Mosel Valley in Germany and the northern Rhone Valley in France. The two most notable appellations are Barolo and Barbaresco.
