Goedhuis, December 2020
The smallest Grand Cru Clos in Morey St Denis, so always a bit of a rarity. A subtle blend of dark Valrhona dark chocolate and sweet wild strawberry flavours. This is beautifully delicate and so layered, balancing red and black fruits. There is a fine line of freshness and tremendous persistence on the finish. No mistaking this is Grand Cru!

Burghound, April 2021, Score: 90-93
A spicier nose features notes of wood, red currant and plenty of plum and exotic tea scents. The sleek and refined middle weight flavors are not as concentrated or powerful but I like the precision of the youthfully austere and well-balanced finale. In contrast to the Clos de la Roche, this will need at least a few years first. Drink: 2031+

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less

Region
Clos Saint-Denis
Tucked between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and sharing the same stratum of limestone, Morey-St-Denis is unfairly less celebrated than its better known neighbours. It boasts five Grand Crus, including Clos-St-Denis. Slightly lighter than Clos-de-la-Roche, Clos Saint-Denis' wines balance delicacy, finesse and wonderful Pinot fruit - the quintessential Grand Cru of Morey-St-Denis.
