Tasting Notes

  • GDH

    Goedhuis, November 2020

Named for the small huts (bode) next to Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, Les Baudes produces a relatively muscular Chambolle in comparison to the other Premiers Crus. This is a wine of Grand Cru quality, with its appealing summer pudding fruit aromas. It is rich and giving with a touch of the wild forest. The tannins are present but always round and ripe. Hugely concentrated and flattering, yet complex. A great wine in the making.

  • BURG

    Burghound, January 2021,
    Score: 90-92

Discreet wood can be found on the bright and ripe aromas of spiced plum, black pinot fruit and pretty violet nuances. The sleek and delicious middle weight flavors are not as dense as those of the old vines Chambolle though they possess more evident power and length on the firmer and mouth coating finish. Drink: 2029+

Domaine Geantet-Pansiot

Created in 1955 by Edmond Geantet, this popular domaine has been run by his friendly and energetic son Vincent since 1989. Now joined by his son and daughter, Fabien and Emilie, the Geantets have built up this domaine into one of the most substantial estates in the Côte de Nuits, with 22 hectares of vines across Gevrey Chambertin and beyond. Their new winery at the edge of the village may not be one of the region’s architectural high points, but it has given them the vital space to vinify at ease. Through a combination of old vines (plenty of centenaries in their vineyards), sumptuous fruit concentration and generous new oak they make a hedonistic style of Burgundy. With a generous 10 day cold maceration, the colours are deep and the fruit aromas dark and ripe.

Region

Chambolle-Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
