Goedhuis, November 2020
A real beauty from this south westerly Premier Cru. Full of striking freshly peeled oranges, this is a very creamy and sensual wine. It is rich and attractive, with good breadth and a fine long weighted finish. Drink 2022-2028

Burghound, December 2020,
Score: 91A softly exotic nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of dried yellow orchard fruit, mineral reduction, shellfish and quinine. There is excellent volume to the notably rich, even lavishly so, medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by bright citrus-tinged acidity that is sufficiently firm not only to maintain the balance but also ensure that this should age well over the mid-term. Outstanding.

Matthew Jukes, November 2020,
Score: 17A change of pace for Pinson’s Premier Crus, as all of the attack that the village wine had, is now dissipated along a much more considerable runway of flavour and this suits Montmain perfectly. Not a detailed wine but a decent one, there is a measured approach here which suits this style and it will afford pleasurable if not electrifying drinking over the next five or so years. Drink now-2025

Jasper Morris MW, December 2020,
Score: 90-93Planted 1956. Assembled yesterday. This time the fruit is fighting through the sulphur. Pale yellow, reduction reinforced by the sulphur. I like this in the mouth, but the recent sulphuring gives a little temporary bitterness at the back. Good finish and length. 4 stars.

Producer
Domaine Pinson Freres

The Pinson name is one of the most established in the town of Chablis; the family can trace its history there back to the 1640s. It is now run by brothers Christophe and Laurent, joined by Laurent’s daughter, Charlène. The family team oversee some of the finest parcels of old vines in the region from which they make extraordinarily fine and classical Chablis. They like to use oak barrels for maturation, although the influence of new oak is only ever a gentle whisper in the background of their steely wines. Their wines consistently show the raciness and elegance of fine Chablis.
Region
Chablis
Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
