    This gorgeous, cellar worthy wine has a dark intensity thanks to the alluring black fruit nestled amongst dried herbs, violet and mineral undertones. Delicious charcoal and espresso melt into the rich tannins which are complemented by a leafy freshness. Beautifully complex and very fine. Drink 2024-2034

    The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch has a little more delineation and precision than its Franschhoek counterpart, offering ebullient blackberry and briar mixed with a touch of dark chocolate. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with better structure and good density and grip toward the dark-chocolate- and espresso-tinged finish. A classy and quite sophisticated Cabernet. Drink 2023-2040.

Located east of Cape Town in a remote corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, Boekenhoutskloof is one of South Africa’s most revered wineries. Although the estate has been in existence since 1776, it wasn’t until talented young winemaker, Marc Kent, bought the property back in 1993 that Boekenhoutskloof started to see its stock rise; in the last decade the estate has twice been voted Winery of the Year by distinguished South African journalist John Platter. Restoring the vineyard to its former glory, the new owners established plantings of European varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Grenache. While Boekenhoutskloof is better known for its exceptional red wines, the estate also produces a sumptuous white from old vine Sémillon, as well as a few cases of their Noble Late Harvest – a celestial sweet wine made in the mould of a Sauternes.

Stellenbosch

An important region in South Africa, named after the beautiful town at its centre, it is the hub of viticultural activity and learning in the country. Only slightly warmer than Bordeaux, this is an ideal climate for grape growing, and produces many impressive Bordeaux blends, as well as Chenin Blancs.
