  • Goedhuis, Janaury 2021

This domaine wine is a monopole within the Jadot portfolio and sits within the better know Premier Cru Vignes Franche on the Pommard side of the appellation. Taking its name from the Ursuline nuns who once owned this vineyard, it is a stronger, fuller styled of wine than the Theurons. Firmer fruit characters of loganberry and sloe, it has a feeling of richness and breadth. Deliciously sweet fruit, there is a touch of mocha and coffee bean. The tannins provide a tightness and a granular texture. This is a hugely impressive wine, showing class and breeding.

  • Neal Martin, December 2021, Score: 91-93

The 2019 Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet featuring a mélange of red and black fruit intermingled with orange blossom and iodine aromas. Good intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with a stocky opening, fine structure and symmetry and a fine bead of acidity. There’s a dark fruit flourish toward the finish, which leaves behind a subtle marine-themed aftertaste. Excellent. Drink 2023-2038.

  • Burghound, April 2021, Score: 91-94

This is also markedly reserved and requires vigorous swirling to reveal its array of cool, pure and wonderfully complex red and dark berries, earth, spice and a pretty floral whiff. There is a positively gorgeous mouthfeel to the sleek but plush flavors that manage to retain very good definition on the dusty, serious and impressively persistent finale. This is already really lovely and potentially great. Drink 2031+ Sweet Spot Outstanding

  • Wine Advocate, Score: 92-94

Always one of the high points of the portfolio, the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) offers up aromas of berries and plums with hints of warm spices and orange rind, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, round and fleshy, with elegantly muscular structuring tannins and lively acids, this will age with grace. William Kelley

Founded in 1859 by Louis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot has always been situated in the centre of Beaune in the heart of the Burgundy vineyards. Managed by three generations of the Jadot family and then by the Gagey family assisted by Jacques Lardière in the cellar, Jadot is now directed by Pierre Henry Gagey, who has introduced a new wine making team, Frédéric Barnier and Guillaume Large. Since careful ageing in wooden barrels is so very important for the balance, aromas and the ageing potential of a great wine, in 1996, Louis Jadot entered into partnership with a firm of coopers, forming Cadus Cooperage, established in Ladoix Serrigny. This allows them to control their wood sourcing and the barrel production. Maison Louis Jadot now controls 105 hectares in Burgundy with more than 70 hectares in the Côte d'Or, exclusively in Premier and Grand Cru. They produce both negociant wines under the Maison Louis Jadot label and a number of Domaines: Gagey, Duc de Magenta, Louis Jadot and Héritiers de Louis Jadot.Read less

Region

Beaune

The viticultural capital of Burgundy, Beaune was the headquarters to the Duchy in the 13th century and is now home to many winemakers and négociants. The appellation of Beaune includes both reds and white wines, though the quantity of red is significantly greater. The soils are predominantly sandier than either those to the north in Aloxe Corton or those to the south in Volnay or Pommard, producing wines that are supple and early drinking in nature. Similar to other surrounding Côte de Beaune appellations, there are no grand crus, but it does offer 42 premier cru sites, some of which are exceptional. These include Les Grèves, Les Teurons and Les Vignes Franches.
