Goedhuis, January 2020
The enviably positioned Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts is located just north of Richebourg and Brulées and sits above Les Suchots and Echezeaux. Always a standout cuvée chez Potel and really very impressive in 2018, it shows wild dark aromas and rich, ripe complex flavours complemented by silky, rounded tannins and a lovely freshness on the finish.

Burghound, April 2020, Score: 88-91
There is just enough wood influence present to warrant mentioning on the fresher nose of spice, plum, black raspberry and lilac. The plush, round and seductively textured flavors are almost thick to the point of opulence, all wrapped in a lingering finish that firms up quickly. It would be fair to observe that this isn't a classic rendition but it's interesting in its fashion. Drink 2028+

Son of the family who used to own the illustrious Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, Nicolas Potel set up his négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene in 2008. A Bourguignon through and through, Nicolas’ unrivalled local network of thoroughly reliable grower-suppliers allows him to source fruit from the most sought-after parcels in the Côte. He also produces a selection of domaine wines (under Domaine de Bellene). The emphasis remains to this day on well-sited venerable vines and viticulture and the Maison Roche de Bellene label is the superlative source of attractive, well-priced Burgundy wines. Nicolas chose the name ‘Bellene' in honour of the ancient Roman name for Beaune.Read less

Region
Vosne Romanée
The vineyards of the modest village of Vosne Romanée are arguably the most sought after in the Côte d'Or. It is host to excellent Village and Premier Cru wines, but it is its most famous Grand Crusthat truly stand out: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands Echézeaux, Echézeaux, Romanée St. Vivant and La Romanée as well as Cros Parentoux, a Premier Cru vineyard which attracts Grand Cru attention (and prices). Vosne-Romanée can be remarkably robust and powerful, yet be charming and fleshy giving it one of the most diverse styles of the region.
