  • Goedhuis, December 2019

The Charmois premier cru is located on the border of Chassagne Montrachet. This 2018 is very open with appealing white peach and pear flavours. Supple and refined, with an uplifting bite of acidity creating a long refreshing finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2020, Score: 89

The 2018 Saint-Aubin Les Charmois 1er Cru has a taut, stony bouquet with light orange blossom and flinty scents. The palate is very saline on the entry, capturing the spiciness of this vineyard with stem ginger springing up on the finish. It just misses a little persistency but otherwise, fine. 2021 - 2029

  • Burghound, June 2020, Score: 89-92

This too has enough sulfur on the nose to mask the underlying fruit. The rounder and slightly less mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess very good energy while offering just a bit more complexity on the lingering, balanced and refreshingly dry finale. Drink 2024+

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2020, Score: 89-91

Fine pale colour with a fresh white fruit nose, less stony than Pitangeret. Lemon fresh acidity, excellent purity, classic St Aubin.

Paul further developed the domaine by increasing the family's vineyard holdings with various Chassagne Montrachet Premier Crus - many located on the well-draining top slope positions. The domaine now boasts a respectable 13 hectares from which they produce 15 wines. Today, Paul's oldest son Thierry has taken over the majority of winemaking responsibilities and hasdone so over the past few vintages. According to Paul, Thierry has a sort of ‘sixth sense' way ofdoing things which has only enhanced the wines' innate qualities. All we know is that they aredelicious and truly display a magical attribute that can only come from a master.Read less

Region

Saint Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
