Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, December 2019
Les Castets is a south facing stony vineyard, and Damian considers this his most elegant and refined St Aubin. This is a wine from relatively young vines and the youth and vigour is evident. Very pure and fresh, with fine white stone fruit flavours. An early drinking style and simply irresistible.

Neal Martin, January 2020,
Score: 91-93The 2018 Saint-Aubin les Castets 1er Cru is tighter and more primal on the nose compared to the en Creots. It eventually gains more clarity and reveals intense blood orange, citrus lemon and wet limestone scents. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry. There is fine weight in the mouth, good grip and quite a phenolic, pithy finish that bodes well for the future, but suggests two or three years in bottle. One to watch. 2023 - 2040

Wine Advocate, January 2020,
Score: 89-91Scents of citrus oil, almond paste and white flowers introduce the 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Castets, a medium-bodied, open and expressive but precise wine, derived from a south-facing site characterized by poor, stony soils.

Domaine Marc Colin

One of our favourite Burgundy estates, Domaine Marc Colin produces year-in and year-out, some of the most balanced, expressive wines in the Côte de Beaune. Their strict principles of using only natural yeast, having a slow, cool fermentation and little ‘débourbage' (draining the juice fromits sediment) contributes to their pure, fresh flavours and impeccable balance. The domaine is now run by brothers Pierre-Yves, Damien and Joseph who took over from their semi-retired father several years back. The "changing of the guard" has had little effect on the wines. The only notable difference is less stirring of the lees in order to retain the wines' mineral undertones. And as aresult, they are as delicious and sincere as ever.
Region
Saint-Aubin
Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
