Huon Hooke, May 2020,
Deep, bright red colour with a good tint of purple and a lovely spicy bouquet, which instantly evokes the Northern Rhône. The wine is full-bodied and very intense, lushly-fruited, soft and sweet in the centre, with amplitude and supple texture so that it already drinks really well. It finishes long in the mouth and will age well. A superb shiraz. 2020-2038
Giaconda is a shining star in the firmament of Australian wine alongside Leeuwin Estate and Penfolds Grange, it’s just its rarity that makes it less well known amongst ardent collectors. Demand regularly outstrips supply making both the Giaconda’s Shiraz and Chardonnay scarce in the UK market. The estate in Beechwood, Victoria, is lauded by critics worldwide, and winemaker Rick Kinzbrunner is considered a Chardonnay master. Indeed, in March 2015 Decanter Magazine picked Giaconda as one of the world’s greatest Chardonnay producers. The estate’s 400m elevation ensures the wines are vibrant and fresh, and the gentle winemaking produces outstandingly terroir-driven wines.
