Tasting Notes
-
Goedhuis, January 2020
People are catching on to the brilliance of this Marsannay-based producer and highlighting the excellent quality and value of these wines from an appellation tipped for 1er Cru status. From a mid-sloped vineyard that produces beautifully floral Pinot, this 2018 Favières is replete with wild alpine berries and spring flowers. We love its tight, controlled palate and sweet, rounded finish. A real star buy.

Burghound, January 2020,
Score: 90-92There is better freshness still to the pretty and attractively layered aromas of red cherry, raspberry and evident floral elements. The punchy and appealingly textured flavors exude evident salinity on the impressively complex and lingering finish where the same cherry lozenge character is present. 2028+

Domaine Charles Audoin

Rugby-loving Cyril is the 5th generation of Audoins in the commune of Marsannay, the Côte de Nuits’ most northerly appellation covering 400 hectares. Today Marsannay is rightly gaining the recognition it deserves as a fine source of high-quality red wines, not least thanks to Cyril’s efforts, amongst others. Indeed, the commune has 14 lieux-dits which have been proposed to the INAO for a long overdue upgrade to 1er Cru status. Whilst this might not be immediate, it reflects the respect that Marsannay and its best vineyards are rightly held in today.

Marsannay
The most northerly appellation of the Cote d'Or, Marsannay is also the only appellation authorised to produce red, white and rose wine. Only created in 1987, this is an interesting area where quality is improving. Top producers include Bruno Clair, Meo-Camuzet and Denis Mortet.
